Vintage June 1966 Seiko 62MAS Diver 6217-8001 Big Crown Dolphin Back
Seiko
Up for sale is a legendary piece of horological history: the Seiko 62MAS (Reference 6217-8001). Released in 1965, the 62MAS stands as Seiko’s very first professional dive watch and remains the ultimate holy grail for vintage Seiko collectors. This specific example dates to June 1966 (Serial No. 6614557) and features the highly coveted, beautifully defined Suwa Dolphin caseback. The Caliber 6217 automatic movement is running well and keeping good time, housed in a sharp 37mm stainless steel case. The iconic charcoal/grey sunburst dial shows a stunning authentic patina with original indices and hands that have aged to a beautiful uniform hue. Please note that the bezel insert is aftermarket, but it fits perfectly and gives the watch a crisp, clean aesthetic. Incredibly, this piece comes mounted on its rare, authentic original Tropic rubber strap (stamped with the correct vintage 1218 text code on the inside tail), completing the definitive 1960s diver look. This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a well-preserved, running example of Japan's most historic diver. Please review the macro photos carefully as they form part of the condition description.
